Day 1
Airport transfer, hotel, gear check and briefing.
Day 2
Rainforest trek from the southern gate to Machame Camp (2,835m).
Day 3
Steep climb out of the forest onto the Shira Plateau (3,750m).
Day 4
High point at Lava Tower (4,630m), descend to Barranco Camp (3,900m).
Day 5
Barranco Wall then a half-day to Karanga Camp (3,995m) with afternoon rest.
Day 6
Move to Barafu (4,673m), midnight start, sunrise on Uhuru Peak (5,895m), descend to Millennium Camp.
Day 7
Forest descent to Mweka Gate, summit certificates and transfer to Moshi.
It is a steep but non-technical scramble of about 1.5 hours. Guides lead the group slowly and there is no rope or climbing gear needed.
The seventh day adds the Karanga camp, which lifts summit success from roughly 70% to well above 90%.
It is Kilimanjaro's most popular route, so you will see other groups. We start each day slightly ahead of the crowds.
