Day 1
Pickup at JRO, hotel check-in and trek briefing.
Day 2
Drive around the mountain to the Kenyan side and walk to Simba Camp (2,625m).
Day 3
Steady moorland climb to Second Cave (3,450m) with wide views of Kibo's north face.
Day 4
Trail leaves the main path toward the jagged Mawenzi peaks and Kikelewa Camp (3,600m).
Day 5
Short steep day to Mawenzi Tarn (4,330m) beneath the spires; afternoon acclimatisation walk.
Day 6
Cross the saddle to Kibo Hut (4,700m); early dinner and rest before the summit.
Day 7
Midnight start via Gilman's Point to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), then descend to Horombo Huts and out via Marangu Gate.
It is the only route from the north, so it is drier, much quieter and has a gentle gradient — ideal for a first high-altitude climb or for the rainy season.
You descend via Marangu, so you see two different sides of the mountain in one trip.
Colobus monkeys and buffalo tracks are often seen in the lower forest on the Kenyan side of the mountain.
